If you get a skilled work visa, can you bring your dependents to the UK or not? UK Skilled Work Visa: Which Jobs Let You Bring Your Family and Dependants? There was a lot of confusion when the government issued the white paper, uh few months ago, and obviously, even a few weeks ago, when the government said that they’re going to change some immigration policies from the 22nd of July 2025.

There was a lot of confusion that what sort of jobs will be able to get your dependency into the UK and which jobs will not because the government said that if you are doing RQF6 then it means that you can bring your dependence if you get a skilled work visa and if you get a job in an RQ of 3 to 5 then you might get a skil work visa but you cannot bring your dependence and there are certain jobs which are now considered ineligible to apply for skill work visa.
Now the confusion was about what job categories will be considered as RQF6 or RQF 3 to 5, but after 22nd of July the government actually updated their SOC which is basically standard occupation classification, and now the confusion is clear, and now we know with certainty that which jobs are considered eligible to bring your dependence to the UK and which jobs are not eligible.

Some of you might watch a video which I uploaded uh few weeks ago about changes to the immigration system that were in place uh and that are now in place from the 22nd of July.

Uh, in that video, I mentioned that you need to have a degree to get an RQ of 6. But now this confusion because have now gone and now the understanding is that if you do not have a degree for example but you have got enough experience and uh your job is actually in that list then that job might still be able to fall RQF6 but you might not have a degree because previously I thought that you should have a degree but because of this list I come to know that there might be some jobs in which you do not need a degree but because of your skill level has you know has increased so much and you have worked in that profession for long uh then you might end up getting that RQ of six even though you don’t have a degree and you can still bring your dependence as well and obviously RQ of 3 to 5.

Now let’s uh start this video, and obviously I will take you to the website. Basically, this is the website run by the UK government, and these occupation codes are published by the UK government. So basically, in this occupation code, you’ll be able to see which occupation you belong to and whether you can get a skilled work visa or not, or whether you can call your dependent or not.
Uh, on this uh website, you can see that there are three categories: higher, medium, and ineligible. Higher means that your job is RQF6 level and you can bring your dependence. But if your job class is classified as medium, it means that this is a temporary shortage occupation list, which means that this profession is eligible for getting a skilled work visa, but you are not eligible to bring your dependents.
And if it says ineligible, it means that you are not allowed to get a skilled work visa on this application anymore. So and also like there’s also a big question about the teaching profession as well, which I will talk through later about which teaching professions are basically eligible for getting a higher RQ of a six-level job, and which sort of professions in education are considered medium-level or ineligible.
So let’s go through that list. So if you see occupation code 11, it is basically chief executives and senior officials. You can see it says higher skill, which means that you can bring your dependent here. But if you see 1112, which is elected officers and representatives, it says ineligible, which means that if looking into this job and looking at this uh code, if you want to bring your dependents, you cannot because this is now considered ineligible.

And obviously, you can go through this whole list. production managers, for example, and construction or energy financial managers, marketing, sales, etc. So you can see some of these professionals are considered higher skill, and if you have managers and directors in retail and whole school, it is considered medium skills, and then if you have officers in the armed forces, now they are considered ineligible.
Uh, similarly,y if I go down to the next list, which is, for example, year-end sports manager medium skills profession means that you cannot bring your family, healthcare practice managers, again, it’s a manager kind of post, again, this is classified as medium skill. Now moving on to the the next one which is about let’s say chemical scientist it is basically considered higher skill biological scientist again higher skill physical scientist considered higher skill as well and then obviously I will just go down to the list because this is quite long so you can just go over this list and see which profession which profession is yours because there are loads of professions and I cannot cover all of them but obviously I’ll be considering and I’ll be looking into profession into education and this list starts from 2311 on.
So if you see C2311, higher education teaching professions, this is considered a higher skill. Even if you are teaching further education or secondary school teachers, whether you’re a teacher of English, art, design, drama, English, geography, ICT, science, physics, physical education, religious education, or teaching classifications elsewhere classified they considered higher skill. Primary education teachers are also higher skill.
Nursery education teaching professionals are also considered to have higher skills. Special additional needs are also considered as higher skills. Teachers of English as a foreign language or teaching professionals are not well classified. Head teachers, for example, educational managers, and early education child services. In this one, if you see over here, this is classified as medium-skilled, which means that if you get a job in early education, then you cannot bring your dependent.

And then we’ve got, for example, liars or barristers, as they are higher-skilled as well. And if you see this list like two four, even like a social worker, this is considered a higher skill. Uh, so basically, you can actually look down into this list, this is quite a long list, and you can see some jobs are considered medium skills, and some of them are basically ineligible.

And if you see over here, chefs and cooks are now there are two different categories. Chefs are considered medium-skilled. Now, as previously, chefs were hired by many restaurants, and they could bring their dependents. Now the chefs are considered medium skills, and obviously, it is considered RQ of 3 to 5. You cannot bring your dependence if you are starting your job.
But if you are a cook, for example, this is now considered ineligible. So uh I hope that you have enjoyed this video and you know uh and also now you’ve got clarity in your head that what sort of profession can help you in bringing your dependence and what sort of profession if you’re single for example but you still want to stay in the UK and want to become you know as UK citizen or get an ILR you should you need a skilled work visa obviously because after 5 years you can apply for ILR the rules have not changed about ILR yet obviously there’ll be some changes about ILR I’m not What about all those changes? There’s nothing about it. I have written an email already to an MP, and I’m waiting for a response from the MP because I have explained to the MP what sort of sacrifices those people who were already in the UK on this, on the route when they got a skilled work visa.

So it will be very hard for those people to stay in the UK. Obviously, it will not be unfair to them. So once I get a reply from the MP where I am based, I’m also going to make another video on that topic as well, that’s what my email was and what the reply was. But obviously uh if and also like if you are on a skilled work visa, please write an email to your MP as well to actually explain to the MP that you know what the challenges are that you have faced, what sort of tax you have paid, and why, uh, it is unfair to actually change the rule now. But obviously, for the new entrant, the rules will definitely going to be changed because the UK government wants to control immigration.
