UK vs Europe for Pakistani Students: Which is Better? (Visa, Jobs, Fees)

The UK has implemented a quota system. Every university has its quota; every university has a fixed number of case allocations. Should you go to France, Germany, or Europe… let me use the word Europe… should you go here, or should you go to the UK? The UK will take the lead over Europe because, academically, the UK is better than Europe. The UK is academically better than Europe at this time. Australia has a lot of benefits, but Australia isn’t even granting visas, so where do all those benefits go?

If we compare the UK versus Europe, again, I would vote for the UK. A country with a capacity of 78,000 will get choked, and everyone will be refused. This is why I am still saying, for God’s sake, children considering France should think carefully and choose their university/college. Don’t send admission applications to colleges costing four or five thousand dollars. They will all be refused, and your time will be wasted.

Regarding post-study work permits, France gives one year, and the UK gives two years. Many children think about how to run away from there, how to escape if they don’t get their degree. They often say that the UK’s laws are very strict.

Welcome. It’s not like this from the start, that it’s a new market, but for the last few months, or let’s say for a while, the market for the UK and Europe is becoming active again in Pakistan. The students and the people who want to go abroad from here are looking very closely at the European market, and comparisons are happening about whether to go to Europe or the UK. Now, within Europe itself, there are three or four countries that are currently giving more visas: France, Germany, Hungary, and Italy is also like. Sweden is closed, and to some extent Finland, but since not many people go from Pakistan, the main comparison happening right now is between France, Germany, and the UK. Should we go to these countries or should we go to the UK?

Today, let’s discuss whether you should go to France, Germany, or Europe (let me use the word Europe) or should you go to the UK? We will compare both. So, let’s compare Europe and the UK. First, let’s compare academically. I would say that the UK will take the lead over Europe because academically, the UK is better than Europe, and it ranks in the top three, rather top two. When it comes to academics worldwide, the USA and UK are the two names that come up. All the European countries, whether France or Germany, academically, you can say they cannot compete with the UK in the way the UK is competing in international education in terms of their education system, their faculty, and all that stuff.

So academically, if we talk about studies, the UK will super-succeed. If you look at rankings, if you look at the faculty of Law, you’ll see that our system of Law, Architecture, Pharmacy, and MBBS is highly aligned with the system of the UK, not with Europe. So, at this point, I will say that the UK is better than Europe academically, in terms of degrees. Many things, in terms of ranking, graduate employability rates, and the module, your degree structure, everything is better in the UK than in Europe.

The second comparison between Europe and the UK is your visa process, the current visa conditions. You will only get a country’s benefit when you arrive there. Currently, if you look, Australia has many benefits, but Australia isn’t granting visas, so where do all those benefits go when you can’t even reach there? So Australia… It’s essential to know that. That is one of the major factors: what is the visa process of that country like, will it give a visa or not? So, UK versus Europe, if we compare, again, I would vote for the UK. Because if we study Europe’s visa policies, immigration policies over the last 5, 10, 15 years, they have always been uneven. Sweden closed overnight. Finland is running now, don’t know if it will give visas this year or not.

France and Germany are very much in the market now. But look at this: France’s applications last year were 10-12 thousand; this year’s applications will be around 50-60 thousand. So, when so many applications go, will it grant 100,000 visas? It will never grant that. France’s capacity for Pakistan is 8000, 9000, 7000; it will not grant visas to Pakistanis above that. Even if 200,000 applications are sent, even if 1 million applications are sent, all the rest will be refused. The same goes for the UK. Somehow, it’s not like that in the UK.

The UK has implemented a quota system. Every university has its quota; every university has a fixed number of case allocations. They know how many children they can take this year, and whoever gets the CAS will then get the visa. So they are quite aligned with the education system, rather than in Europe, where the university is doing as it pleases, and ABC is doing as it pleases. The university doesn’t know why the visa was granted or refused. So this thing, at least you don’t see it in the UK. If you are planning for a country where you have to be in six months, you should at least confirm that my UK visa will be approved. In Europe, this is a question mark.

Even though France, Germany, Finland, Hungary, and Italy exist… Italy’s appointments aren’t available; you know how Hungary’s visa refusals are. The same goes for France and Germany. When a sudden influx of applications comes and applications go in the hundreds of thousands, a country with a capacity of 78,000 will get choked, and everyone will get refused. This is why I am still saying, children considering France, for God’s sake, think carefully and choose your campus university/college. Don’t send admission applications to colleges costing four or five thousand dollars. They will all be refused, and your time will be wasted, and then you will be left wondering what to do next.

After that, let’s talk about the third point, which is the most important: what are the job and earning prospects like there? In this, too, I think the UK and Europe are quite neck and neck. In this, I will either give both one point or tie them. The reason is that according to my research, information, and reports, in Europe currently, you can understand that an income threshold of around 800 to 1200 is being on, which students there are earning. Hardly anyone is going above that. Otherwise, I also had a student of mine who came from Italy last week, and I had a long discussion with him.

Some children who went to Sweden a year ago, who went to Germany, I spoke with them, so no doubt some are earning 1800 too, but the majority are earning between 1200, 1300, 1100, 800 there. In the UK, you could say it’s somewhat similar, somewhat opposite. In the UK, at least earnings are happening between 800-1200. You can say that is a minimum. The earnings happening in the UK currently are between 800 to 1200. I haven’t found any child earning less than that. If someone is very lazy, who doesn’t even want to move a hand, then maybe it’s less. Otherwise, between 800 to 1200, and the upper limit in the UK is a bit higher. Some children are earning 4000 there, some 3000, some 3500. So again, it depends on your fitness, your capacity, and how much you can bear.

Now, regarding post-study work permits, France gives one year, and the UK gives two years. Here, France is good. Both have the same criteria. If you get a PSW in France, you need a contractual job within one year, then you can apply for PR. In the UK, also, if you get a two-year PSW, you need a contractual job within two years, then you can apply for PR. The rules are the same here. There, the income threshold is 28-27,000 Euros. Here, it is 30,000-39,000, and they have now increased it a bit, so approximately, the requirements you have to fulfill are more or less the same. So this was our third comparison.

Good. Now the fourth comparison is one that children will like. That is the ‘jugaadu’ comparison. What is the ‘jugaadu’ comparison? Many children look, once they go there, if they don’t get the degree, how to run from there, how to escape, how to switch visas, how to stay there illegally. This is correct. And they often say that the UK’s laws are very strict; you can’t move from there. So, this point, this point is absolutely true. If you have gone to the UK on a study visa, then once you go there, they don’t let you move easily. There are two or three things:

FLR, or some children, foolishly apply for asylum. In Europe, what happens is… good, staying there illegally… in Europe also, if you are illegal, the jobs you get there won’t be that special. You still have to struggle there in Europe, also. But children prefer to struggle more, and they prefer to become illegal, but we… that they somehow run away, become a rabbit, go there, go to Italy, go to Portugal, go there and apply for papers. Do it like this, do it like that. But in the end, they are only struggling.

They focus on struggling illegally to complete their 10 years, and complete 7 years. So, in Europe, I agree that shifting countries there, changing countries, moving from here to there, from Germany to Spain, from Spain to somewhere else, by changing country destinations, you can somehow manage to keep your footing. But I will not give Europe a point for this over the UK because many children, while they are studying in the UK, I think if 2000 children have gone through us, I think 1800 of them have visited Europe and returned.

You get the visa from there in one month or within 15 days, and from the UK, you can easily go to Europe. And if you want to do any activity there, you can easily go and do it from there. In this regard, I will not give Europe a point over the UK, as it has an advantage in this matter. However, from a student’s point of view, the UK is a better market, a better destination as compared to Europe.

Now comes your further priority. A comparison is also made between the UK and Europe regarding what your own planning is, what your own priority is. What do you want for yourself? Do you want a degree? Do you not want to struggle? Do you want to do a job? Do you want to get a degree from a top-ranked university and work in a good firm? Do you want to get a degree and come back? Do you have a settlement here? Do you have a business here? This priority also varies. Your priority might be that your cousin is sitting in Germany, or you just want to reach France or Sweden quickly; that’s my job, so I will go, and I will handle the rest later. So what is your priority? This is also a comparison.

If your priority is education, academics, to opt for a clear path, a clear route, then I guess your inclination will probably be more towards the UK. It’s not that such routes don’t exist in Europe. The biggest problem that comes in Europe is one: when you want to shift from your PSW to your PR, when you have to shift to PR after getting a job, the biggest barrier you face is the language barrier, which will not end till doom for you. So this is a very big barrier to getting a white-collar job. In any country, in a bank, you get this barrier. Otherwise, the process for both is almost the same.

So that was about expenses. Let’s talk about expenses. Expenses are also more or less approximately the same. 12,000, 13,000 Euros per year is in Europe, if we talk about a private university. In Germany, there are some 10,000, 11,000, but then the study there is for 2 years. Where it’s a one-year study, their fee is also 14,000, 13,000, 15,000, 12,000. The same goes for France, the same goes for any other country. In Hungary, it is less expensive, but the feedback I get from children about Hungary is that, besides Budapest, you don’t get jobs anywhere, and you don’t get admission in Budapest, so I don’t bring it into comparison with France, Germany, or any other country.

However, the biggest disadvantage of going to the UK is that they have now increased the IHS a lot. You have to pay £775 per year. You can understand that £2500-£2000 is insurance of 20-25 lakhs. That is a bit tough. One should not have so much trouble for money’s sake. If you look at Europe, your health insurance is free. So this is one point. Then, the basic fee in Europe is also 25, 30, 22 (thousand), it is that much. 100 Euros, 50 Euros, 60 Euros? In the UK, the fee is £5000, Mashallah, which again comes to around 17-18 lakhs. So I think this is one… You could say the UK requires a bit more financial strength. Whatever your internal goals are, the fee shouldn’t be this high.
