Increase Electricity Tariffs Saudi Arabia Start from January 1, 2027
Saudi Arabia is raising electricity tariffs starting 1 January 2027. The Saudi Energy Company confirmed the changes on Sunday, 25 October, following the Kingdom’s standard procedures for adjusting energy and water prices.
Residential customers
- Up to 6,000 kWh/month: rising from 18 to 21 halalas per kWh (≈16.7% increase)
- Above 6,000 kWh/month: rising from 30 to 33 halalas per kWh (10% increase)
New fixed monthly charges (residential)
These replace the old meter-reading, maintenance and bill-preparation fees. You will not be charged both:
| Breaker capacity | Monthly charge |
|---|---|
| 20 – less than 100 A | SAR 70 |
| 100 – less than 200 A | SAR 80 |
| 200 – less than 300 A | SAR 90 |
| 300 A and above | SAR 100 |
Commercial, industrial & other categories
- Commercial / private education / private medical: 25 halalas (≤6,000 kWh) and 35 halalas (above)
- Industrial: 23 halalas per kWh
- Agricultural: 19 / 23 halalas
- Charitable organisations: 17 / 21 hanalas
- Government: flat rate of 35 halalas per kWh
Fixed monthly charges for non-residential customers will also vary by breaker size and category.

What this means for your bill
- Only electricity used from 1 January 2027 will be charged at the new rates.
- Consumption before that date stays on the current tariffs, even if the bill is issued in January.
- Fixed monthly charges are prorated for shorter or longer billing periods.
- All published rates exclude VAT, which will be added as usual.
You can check your breaker’s capacity on the Saudi Energy app or your current bill. Full details are available on the company’s official website, and customer service channels remain open for any questions.
A measured adjustment that still leaves lower consumption relatively affordable, while clearer fixed charges replace the old fee structure.
